factors in the variation of seroconversion time?

by Frank303, Jan 14, 2008 03:23PM
What factors influence the time to seroconversion?

At 28 days results came back negative, though that's probably too soon.

There have been no studies confirming specific factors that would influence the time to seroconversion. There are only theoretic discussions that PEP treatment or other HIV medications taken shortly after infection could prolong the window period. Other theories include coinfection with Hepatitis C and HIV and/or undergoing cancer treatment (i.e. chemotherapy) could possibly influence. But up to date, none of this has been scientifically proven and thus remain theories.

If someone were taking HIV medications other than for PEP then they have HIV and don't need testing. HCV will NOT delay seroconversion. Chemo and antirejection drugs do not slow down seroconversion. It slows the productions of antibodies for the tests to detect.
