Sorry to say, there is no effective treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).  IPF, in an "advanced state" is life threatening.

Steroids have not been very effective.  However, a recently reported trial of a drug called bosentan showed a trend in delayed time to death or disease progression, and improvement in quality of life (QOL).

Hi Ankitha,
My father who's in india has also been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease last year. He is on some immunosuppressants medication as i believe. I am constantly asking him to perform pranayamam as the doctor suggested him. Also asking him to be active. Ask your dad to perform pranayamam as much as possible. Hope everything gets better and heals. I am also trying to research a lot about the cures and help, but haven't found a lot of sources yet. If i do i will let you know if you provide me with your email address. I believe the best thing at the moment is to listen to what the doctor says and follow it with faith, as all the websites out there only talk about the distress but no cure. Best wishes.
