Fatty Liver (ALT 17) ( AST 29)

by Sam365, Jan 15, 2008 01:27PM
My doctor referred me for an upper gi and abdominal ultrasound after symptoms of acid reflux and esophagitis. I was having difficulty swallowing pills. The diagnosis was mild esophagitis and acid reflux and slow digestion. After getting the results of the ultrasound, they advised me that I have a fatty liver. The doctor advised me to lower my lower carb intake and refined sugar, and to excercise. My liver enzymes are alt 17 and ast 29, which I understand to to within normal ranges and that my triglycerides are high at 197. She did refer me to a gastroneterologist, but my appointment isn't until next week and this is stressing me out big time. I am a 52 year old female. Please any feedback would be appreciated

Fatty liver itself isn't dangerous situation. What questions you have?

I guess I'm just worried because it's my liver. I was just wondering if this was out of the ordinary.

"Fatty liver" is an official term, it means droplets of fat are deposited in your liver cells. At this stage this probably doesn't make any problems, but with time, fatty liver may develop toward cirrhosis. Loosing weight is the only thing you can do to cure yourself.

You might also want to lower your triglicerides. I guess GI will be able to advice you about the diet.
