Anorexia??

by mel11, Jan 15, 2008 10:41PM
Hi, I can't even believe that I am writing this post, because my husband has been trying to talk to me about this for months, but I guess it's easier to get it out this way, cause I don't have to actuallly talk about it ! So, this is my situation. I am 29 yrs old, I think I have an issue. I go without eating all day 5-6 days out of the week. I will eat dinner though, because I HAVE to cook for my kids, and hubby. Some nights I just have a snack though. Like today, I had some french fries, a couple soda's , and a half of a piece of chicken. No dinner or lunch yesterday. But, this is NOT because I am trying to starve myself, I just am not hungry, or I don't feel like eating. I don't think I am fat, I could lose alitttle, but I am def. not starving myself. I don't understand how I can go without eating and still get along all day. I have two kids, and I am hungry, but nothing looks good, and I don't feel like making food. I like to cook for other people. I have never had an issue with food before, I really loved to eat. I have always been skinny ( genetics ), over the last 8 months I have lost almost 30lbs. dropped 2 sizes. I really don't know !
My husband thinks, I am too skinny, and that I should eat. But I am not doing this on purpose, he doesn't understand.
Am I Anorexic?? can u be anorexic if u are not purposely starving yourself?? I need help. If u can lend any info., please do....

Are you on any new medications or have you had a checkup lately?  I think that if you aren't purposely going without food and you are 29 with no past food issues, there is a real possibility that you could be ill if your lack of appetite persists.  You should see your doctor to make certain you aren't sick, because lack of appetite is a warning sign of many different illnesses and its not as though you are a teenager doing this on purpose.

Do you have any stressors that could be causing your disordered eating? I'm not saying you have an eating disorder, merely that you have an unusual eating habit. Is it terrifying for you to consider eating three meals a day? Do you prefer eating many small snacks compared to a full meal? Would you rather not eating at all? Do you base what you eat off it's fat/oil/calorie content?

I guess where you can see my questions leading too and regardless of what your husband says, if your answer to any of those questions sets off an alarm bell or isn't what you thought it would be, then I would visit a medical professional - this doesn't have to be a doctor, perhaps a nurse or maybe a friend that you can trust - merely to get the perspective from someone who knows you [as I clearly don't!!].

If you find that your eating is beginning to take over your life or interfere with your lifestyle and you find that is not something you can change, then I would definately go and see a doctor - they're there to help should you need it.

Although I agree with alagirl - this may be a resulting implication of your health.

Good luck. xx

I'm not sure if your anorexic or  not, I know when I was I knew I had a problem for I couldn't do anything without thinking about food and what I had or hadn't eaten, my advice would be to see your family doctor. Good luck with everything
