post herpetic neuralgia

I have had Herpes four months back on the back of my right shoulder. after few days of medication, the rashes have gone but the pain is still there. The pain is unbearable and it spreads from the shoulder to the neck. I am not even able to do my daily routine. After the herpes infection I have puton some weight also. what is the remedy for this. when the pain will last.

The pain due to herpes would last for as long as lesion keeps appearing. The pain would usually last for 1-1 1/2 months, but in some patients the pain persists for longer time which is called as post-herpetic neuralgia.
The doctors will prescribe you anti-depressants to relieve pain.
Drugs that inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin — including tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline, desipramine (Norpramin) and nortriptyline (Pamelor) — or a newer antidepressant.
You can also try steroid injection, transcutaneous patch, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation etc.
