anyone benefit from rasberry leaf?

by snagglepuss1, Jan 16, 2008 10:32AM
hi
i am 37w 5d today and since saturday last week have been taking one rapsberry leaf capsule and a cup of raspberry leaf tea a day, my midwife recommended it and i took the tablets for the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy with my ds, but does it actually help? i read it is supposed to make the 2nd stage of labour shorter, my sons labour was 8 1/2 hours total with a 3 hour 2nd stage he was my 2nd baby though and i used a birthing ball when in labour with him, plus my dd my first baby was back to back and that made her labour longer (18 1/2 hours) i just wondered if anyone has used the tea or capsules and seen a definite benefit from it? i intend to take them after baby is born too as it helps restore vitamins and minerals lost in labour.

thanks
claire

My friend started to drink the tea and she was having up to 3 cups a day she started at just over 39 weeks.  She went into labour when she was 40 weeks 5days at 1.30am and she thought she was just having bad stomach ache (her first baby) she laboured at home until 7.30am when she started to bleed , so she foned hospital and went n.  She was booked into l&d at 8.15 at 8.20 was examined and was 10cm dialated and baby girl born at 8.32 am so she had less then 12 min second stage, which is excellent for a first baby and obviously no time for any drugs.  I cant beleive she thought full blown labour was just stomach oains she thought maybe she had eaten something bad.  I dont know if it had anything to do with the raspberry leaf but that was great for a first baby.

i drank the rasberry tea every day, 2-3 cups, for the last 2 weeks before i delivered. i went into labor the night before my due date and he came on his due date. i started contractions at 3:40 am on 1/9 and had him at 7:37 pm on 1/10. so 14 hours or so of labor. however, once, i started pushing, it was only 3 pushes to get him out.
