Degenerative Scoliosis and Macular Degeneration

by Kayde4353, Jan 16, 2008 10:26PM
I am a 37 year old female who has been diagnosed with both macular degeneration and degenerative scoliosis within the last year.  From what I have read, both of these typically occur in persons 65 or older.  I received the diagnosis for the scoliosis after I went to the doctor for lower back pain.  I also have twitching in my pinky on my right hand and in both legs from time to time.  There is also swelling, pain, and numbness in my legs, especially at night.  My mucles often feel weak as if I have just exercised or worked out really hard.  I have sought medical care for pain in my abdomen under my left rib cage.  There is a knot or a lump there, but the doctors have not found anything wrong.  It generally flairs up after I have eaten. There is a history of muscular dystrophy or atrophy in my family although it is not in my immediate family.  I also have some difficulty with my bowels.  I feel the initial urge to go, however, that sensation disappears once I sit down.  I am wondering if there is another condition that could cause me to have these symptoms and both macular degeneration and degenerative scoliosis.  I would like to get as much information specific to persons under 40 with the diseases, as I can; including top facilities for treatment.
