Red small spots on gentials

by qn2511, Jan 19, 2008 01:55AM
Recently i have found small red spots over my gentital area it started as few and now more have appeared in a few days.  I have no idea what this could be and if it was given to me during sexual intercourse or from shaving. A couple of days after sex in which i got swollen and think i got a tear, 3 bumps on my right labia appeared and it swelled. Over the past 2 days the swelling went down but many spots have arrived over the area including one on my clitirious and is very uncomfortable.  Dunno what this could be but urine and other types of liquids besides water really stings once it hits the sore spots. I will see the docter however want some ideas of what this could be?

Sorry but only a doctor is going to be able to give you an accurate diagnosis. I'm no doctor, but from what you describe here, herpes comes to mind. But you don't mention some of the other symptoms that are also common for an initial outbreak.

But it you want to be proactive, before going to the doctor, make sure to do some research about what tests are most accurate/when. For instance, a blood test for herpes is a waste of money unless enough time has passed for the antibodies to build up in your system, normally at least four weeks after exposure. And a swab test from a herpes sore is only reliable if the sore is still active.

In addition to making sure they do tests at the right time, also make sure that they are doing a complete STD panel. Lots of "standard" tests completely skip some of the most common STDs.

Even if it's not an STD, getting tested should give you peace of mind. In the meantime, avoid using harsh soaps in that area, including in the laundry detergents used on your clothing. There are some things that can cause the glands in that area to become swollen, cysts, but the types of sores you describe don't seem to match. Sores from shaving would most likely be ingrown hairs and not so sensitive to liquids.

If it is an STD, your doctor should be able to get you medication that can help ease the pain of outbreaks and reduce them in the future. If it does turn up as herpes, you may also be able to limit outbreaks by avoiding certain foods.

In the meantime, you may also want to post your question in the herpes forum of this site.

No matter what, I wish you the best. You WILL get through this!
