don't know where to go

by frootbar, Jan 20, 2008 12:54PM
hi,
while i've gotten a bit of help/guidance from other forums, i really don't know what one i should be
on!  i do have hashimoto's, for about 14 yrs. now.  take 125mcg. synthroid/12.5mcg. cytomel.
i have apparently, idiopathic hyperckemia, myalgias, and have had a whole array of oddities happen,
including acute glaucoma which came and went, accompanied by nerve pain from shoulder to eye,
hilar adenopathy, eosinophilia, and more.
i see a new endo in 3 weeks, and have a neuromuscular team, but no answer yet.
my pth was high, but it's normalized, high normal mind you.
one thing i find odd, and perhaps someone can explain this more, is that every single time i get
my thyroid tests done, my free t-4 is about the same, normal, my free t-3 is normal, virtually the
same reading, but, my tsh fluctuates all over the place, from hypo, for example, i've been as high
as 11.7 or so, and as low as 0.005.  what does that mean if anything?
i've had just about every dx one can have thrown at me, or potential dx but none have really panned
out yet.  one internist told me i have a major chance of developing lupus.
thanks for any insight.

Have you been tested for pituitary and adrenal probs? I was told by my endo if you have a thyroid problem then you should be tested for both of those as well. They are so closely intertwined that it's likely to have a prob with one if you have a prob with another. Your TSH problem sounds like a conversion problem.Like the lines of communication between your thyroid, your pituitary, and your body are all messed up. I don't know the mechanics of it very well so this isn't going to be a medical lesson. :) I was tested for pituitary and adrenal probs when I was diagnosed with thyroid issues. Strange, too, is that I was also diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis..... I have also been put on "high alert" for Lupus. I don't know. Just a thought. I hope you figure it out!

thanks for the comments....
i see a new and apparently top notch endo in a few weeks, can't wait.
i will inquire about the pituitary/adrenal issues....
i know my LH, FSH and all that has been tested before, but it showed
nothing substantial.  mind you, i have read about pituitary anti-bodies,
which i have not been tested for, and the role growth hormone may play
in some hypo people.
your comment about it sounding like my whole thing is messed up...YES!
it sure is :)  what a rollercoaster ride this has been for 14 years.
thanks again, i'll post something if they ever find out anything.
