redness on head

by pauline21, Jan 22, 2008 05:33PM
Dear Doctor:

I have a daughter who born on Dec 21,2007. We found she has birthmark (pink and flat) around her nose after she just arrived. On Jan.21 2008 we noticed that she has some redness (no bump) on tbe back of her head and her neck. We checked with our pediatrician and she said they are also birthmarks. We are little confused that why these birthmarks show up so late (around 3 or 4 weeks after birth)? Is that common? Also I used vacuum extracted delivery, so I am very concerned the redness on the back of her head which might be related to that. Is there any possibility that is cerebral hemorrhage ?

I am not a doctor, but both my little girls had these.  I think they call them "stork bites" and "angel kisses".  My first (almost 4 yrs old now) was also vacuum extracted and I thought the same thing.  She had red blotches on the back of her head/neck area and also between her eyes.  But the marks went away with time.  My 21-month has them, too.  The ones on her face went away in the first year.  You can still see the one on the back of her head (close to the hairline), but it has lightened quite a bit.  I hope this gives you some peace of mind.  But always trust your mother's instinct!  If you're still concerned, check with your doctor again.
