Herpes

Hi. About ten days ago I touched my boyfriend's penis. A few hours later I felt a cold sore, well actually I think it might have just been skin irritation, but I'm pretty sure it was a cold sore. I get oral cold sores about twice a year. I am afraid that i may have touched my mouth at some point before I touched his penis. Is there any way he could get herpes on his genitals from this? Its been about ten days and hes fine. What do you think?

You came to the forum for reassurance.  You received it, both from me and Grace, a top-of-the-line herpes expert herself.  Accept it and move on.  Stop trying to convince me, and yourself, that you were at risk.  You were not.  If HSV could be transmitted as you say, everybody in the world would be infected.  Stop searching the web for bad news, or at least use your brain in interpreting what you read.

This thread is over.

Its not that I just touched my boyfriends penis. It's that I thought I had a sore and may have touhched it before I touched his penis. But the sore appeared fter I thouched his penis.

Because you said that it was possible, but not likely and he has had no symptoms for almost 8 weeks now.

How can it be said more strongly than it already has?  Did you read the other responses?  You were not at risk of herpes at all.  You can be sure you don't have it.  Just drop it.  Any further anxiety-provoked questions and I will delete the entire thread.

I know that it is redundant, but how sure are you about this, because I was reading on line that droplets in the air can pass on the virus, is this true?

herpes is transmitted thru direct skin on skin contact.  no direct skin on skin contact, no worries.

Let's see now.  It's cold/flu season.  Your boyfriend has classical cold/flu symptoms. Even outside cold/flu season, such respiratory viruses proably are 1,000 times more common causes of such symptoms as herpes.  You mention no oral or genital sores.

The answer is no.

This is my last reply on this thread.

Usually 3-7 days, sometimes up to 3 weeks.  It isn't going to happen.  Just let it go.

Hand-to-genital contact rarely if ever transmits herpes.  Don't worry about it.  Just don't perform oral sex on him when you're having a cold sore; otherwise it's not an issue.  (Even then, it may not be. He might already have HSV-1, since half the population has it from childhood, even if they don't have cold sores. If so, he is immune to catching it again.)

All is well, no worries.   Take care--   HHH, MD
