Fertility

In concern with my previous post dated Nov. 21.

Is it possible that when I was on clomaid I ovulated only for one day? Normally ovulation continues for 3-4 days. I have been doing ovulation test everyday and only once it was positive. (no more clomaid) I am hoping if that was true I should be pregnant or have periods in a week. Is it possible that my egg is not mature enough to get fertilized? or my system is not producing healthy egg? Please help.

Dear annu97 - ovulations does not occur for 3-4 days; ovulation is a one time occurrence as the egg leaves the follicle and is picked up by the fallopian tube. If you are on fertility drugs, and have several eggs, then they may all be released at different times, but probably within several-24 hours. Urine ovulation prediction kits detect a hormone called LH, which is elevated for a period of 36-48h, and this may be what you are referring to when you say ovulation continues for 3-4 days? As for your questions about your egg, they are impossible to answer. If the test turned positive, then this probably means you have had an LH surge and therefore have ovulated, but sometimes a test can be in error. Urine ovulation testing cannot give any answers about the health of the egg. Unfortunately, the only way to know what happened will be to wait until your expected period is supposed to come. If you do not get a period, you should have a blood test for a horone called progesterone (to see if you ovulated or not) and a pregnancy test. If you get a period, then that means you ovulated but did not conceive. Sorry I cannot be more definite -time will tell!
