How do U know you have ADD/ADHD

I'm searching for answers.  I'm 48, so this wasn't a concern when growing up in school.  I seemed to maintain A/B's in most of my school.  It was only the subjects that bored me that I struggled with.

I have always questioned myself when ADD/ADHD hit the news.  I am not hyper except for when I hear great music that makes me want to dance!

I am an artist & ran a business for 7 years and thinking about reopening.  My problem is that I seem to just walk in circles for the smallest things.  For example, cleaning my house yesterday....and it's not real messy....I'd start in one room, then later realize that I'm across the house in another room starting on it when I didn't complete the 1st room.

That's pretty much my life story.  I don't stay focused on anything for longer than 15 minutes..

I don't have insurance or a doctor at this time except for gyno.

Perhaps you're looking at the age & wondering....hmmmmmm menopause.  Yes of course, I had a full hysterectomy & take primarin & elavil.  Sometimes temazapam for sleep which I'm weaning off now.

Doc said elavil is for short term usage, so I'd like to wean off that too.  I only take 25 mg elavil. The 3 meds have only taken for 6 months.  We struggled for almost 2 years to find a fix for my meno, and finally did.

My ex-husband.is ADHD and on medication.  A few weeks back he gave me a couple of adderol to try.  Since I'd never taken that before, I broke it into small pieces and just took tiny bites for a few days.  Whoa........I'm not sure of the mg. he had, but it sure made me get things done that had been on the back burner forever.

Was I wrong to have taken that, & like that?  After taking and thinking about this a few weeks later, I'm wondering if I should try to start a daily dosage?

I do find that as I'm getting older, the focus worsens.

In case you want to know, I don't have high blood pressure, and I'm not overweight, if that helps.

Thanks, and I look forward to advice.

I would say that ADD/ADHD is a possibility here, but that you need to go through the correct channels in acheiving the proper diagnosis and medication.  You should never take someone else's medications, it's dangerous.  Don't get caught up in your age...adult add/adhd is finally starting to be understood....and it's not taboo anymore either.  You need to find a community health clinic that operates on a sliding scale fee if at all possible.
