Help me read MRI of brain report!!

by jinxie007, Jan 23, 2008 05:27PM
1.)  Punctate focus of nonspecific flair hyperintensity in the left subcortical white matter may be within the broad range for age or can be seen in the setting of migraines.  No specific evidence of demyelination

2.) Pituitary glad measures 8mm, upper limits of normal, with mild convexity of the superior margin.

3) Prominent adenoid tissue is noted, symmetric

Symptoms:  migraines, muscle tightness in left and right trap, numbness in both arms, difficult swallowing, dropping things....

Not a doc, but I had a doc once teach me how to read x-rays and things:

1.  Focus is on a specific area, left subcortical area.  White matter may be broad for age.  As people age, demyelination takes place.  This means that you will see parts of the white matter of the brain turn grey.  Grey matter areas of the brain do not have the fatty myelin sheats.  It is good that there is a lot of white matter in the right place for this person's age. Migraines can occur here--where this focus was taken.

2. Pituatary gland is on the large end of normal but it is still normal.  The superior or top margin of the gland is convex and extends somewhat--but it is not a noted problem.  It is structurally noted as probably as a varation in the normal superior margin. No one's brain has the exact same shape and dimensions.

3.  Adenoid tissue is noted and is prominent which means that it could be enlarged due to its function; however, it is symmetric which indicates that the cause of its size is probably not due to cancer.

Hope this helps:)
