My 17 month old daughter has a bad cough and a runny nose - :(

Morning,
My daughter is 17 months old and has a runny nose and a really bad cough. i have been giving her Tixylix for it. is there anything else I should be doing to help her through this?
Also i have a 7 month old son who has asthma and has a very bad cough and a runny nose as well. The doctore have him on his pump and a liquid medication (not sure of the name) it is used for asthma as well. He is ok but gets in these bad coughing spells and it is like his eyes are gonna pop out. It makes him choke. How can I help him more with this??
