Requesting kidney stone information

by stonedkidneys, Jan 25, 2008 02:30PM
55 year old female--My Dr. thought I had a UTI & prescribed anti biotic & after completion, symptoms returned, a CT and ultrasound showed a 3mm stone in L ureter, and a 8mm stone in R kidney & retained fluid in both kidneys. I was given another anti biotic and sent to a urologist who prescribed a non-narcotic pain reliever (Dr. gave me Vicodin) and gave me samples of Uroxatral that relax the muscles surrounding a male prostate (!?!) making is easier for him to urinate.  Urology nurse assured me Uroxatral is given to females and works for female bladders as well (?). Urologist scheduled another CT in 3 weeks at which time he said he MAY consider SWL if stone(s) are still present. I personally can't visualize the 8mm stone going through the ureter, or into the 5mm opening in the bladder, nor do I want to!  I am confused as to why he didn't recommend SWL immediately to attempt elimination of all stones present instead of prolonging the inevitable. I am very anxious to feel even somewhat normal again.
All ideas, comments, suggestions are appreciated!!
Thank you!
