Can we all agree on 1 thing

by l-horn, Jan 30, 2007 12:00AM
If we start talking politics I guarantee you this place will go down in flames. There's about a billion places to do that on the Internet. Can we agree that this is not the place for that ?

I can agree with that.  I'm not much good at discussing politics anyway.

I agree but the ones that agree aren't the ones you have to worry about.
Fl_gal: I just got in from my son's soccer game and it's CST here, I started to ask what time zone you're in. Luckily got a nudge from a brain cell that woke up and recognized what FL stands for!
So you have a new job and new prescription. I started a new job on the 18th. Isn't change fun?

You're right.

Sorry.

I too would agree in as much it does not directly pertain to medical issues.

I say this because as I understand it, a large amount of research funding and public awareness comes from the government here in the USA (FDA, CDC, etc.).  Thus it would seem, that some discussion of politics may occur or should occur as it could actually be beneficial in making folks aware of what is, or perhaps more often is NOT or being severely hindered from, happening in advancement of liver disease eradication and/or public awareness of liver related health risks due to the ineptitude of our elected officials.

Boy, I'm confused. I was operating under the assumption that we were free to discuss topics such as politics, religion and other similarly controversial topics without censure, as well as to chat and get support and compassion and knowledge about coping with HCV and TX. Now, it is suggested that some topics are taboo. Over at the forum when someone objected to religious posts they were often characterized as the forum police and I'm wondering if there is a new sheriff in town. It's not that I am dying to discuss politics because frankly, that subject bores me to death. But, I thought this place was open to all kinds of discussion.

Here at work the other day a woman asked me if I liked Hillary Clinton or not. Now, this woman KNOWS I am extremely passionate about politics. I said look you know how I am...I'd rather not talk about this. Well she went on Oh come on I'm just asking...and again I repeated myself. When she said for the third time well what do you think of her I went off - gave my full, complete opinion on every single aspect - quite emphatically.

Of course she looked at me as if my brains exploded.

Everybody has their own opinion.  But if you don't want to know - don't ask.

I feel that if someone wants to discuss something it's fine on the community board - who can say what really is appropriate or not. But if you ask...or you comment...you'd better be able to give what you get around here because we are really QUITE an opinionated bunch of lunatics on Riba.

:)

Well I was just agreeing to be agreeable. If someone says 'can we all discuss politics today?' I'll agree to that too!
NYgirl: Yeah I try to stay away from politics and the work place. My mouth and opinions always get me in trouble. Week 72. Unbelieveable!

I heard there's this place - that - if you're tired of beating around the bush, you can build your own.

I also heard about a transformation getting ready to take place. Take your pic ... I mean pick.

Hilliary does seem to go both ways eh?

Sorry IHorn but I love political satire.

What happened to the responses? I guess politics is taboo.

by Imagine, Jan 31, 2007 12:00AM
To: ooops - sorry
For some reason after my response to chcnme I went back a couple of times and all the responses were deleted or missing. I had assumed they were "censored". Sorry

by friole, Jan 31, 2007 12:00AM
Well, for months you could google "failure" and the screen that popped up was the Bush biography.  Darn -- it has been fixed.

You are too funny!!  That sounds like something I would say.

Imagine - that keeps happening to me too.  Even sometimes when I go to the forum index, half the threads are gone, then if I go away and come back, they return.  Hmmm...maybe it's the drugs...

I think your mistaking objecting with what some where seeing as outright harassment, baiting, and stalking.

I don't see how you came to that conclusion. I re-read the posts which preceded my post and I think you're confused...or something. Are you smoking something that maybe you shouldn't be? Hey, I don't blame you - pass it over here would ya please. Mike

Hmmm let's see:

Mike - "Now, it is suggested that some topics are taboo. Over at the forum when someone objected to religious posts they were often characterized as the forum police and I'm wondering if there is a new sheriff in town"

and

Mike - "I re-read the posts which preceded my post and I think you're confused...or something. Are you smoking something that maybe you shouldn't be?"

What's with all the hostilities, accusations, and insults?  Are things a bit to quiet on the other forum that you feel a need to pop into this one to stir things up a bit?  Having a bad day are we?

What do the posts preceding yours have anything to do with my comment on the objections I seen raised pertaining to certain folks only posting to bait, harrass, or stalking other people arond various threads in obvious attempts to stir them up.

You might want to browse the archives and perhaps search this forum for a thread by Myown who obviously felt this way and left us for a spell because of it.  In fact, peruse the archives of both forums and I think you'll see patterns of postings emerge.

But enough said, I really don't care which dog can lift their leg higher on the tree.  Post anything and everything you want to my friend and we'll simply let the administrators of this site determine what is or is not acceptable.

I didn't feel hostile at all. I was just confused, that's all. I read threads and assume that what someone posts has some connection with the previous posts. I simply didn't see any connection with your post. I still don't. The smoking thing was my poor attempt at humor and for that I apologize. By the way, I have recovered enough from my bike wreck that I can lift my leg pretty well but probably not as high as you can. I'm working on it though. As I said, political discussions bore me to death so I probably won't start any political threads anyway.
