Feeling there is something stuck/inflammed

by mlb2154, Jan 25, 2008 05:09PM
A few days ago, I felt something moving up my esophagus (as with reflux, except no pain) and then it just stayed there. I felt it very high up in my throat, and I went to the ER to get it looked at.  The doctor did an X-ray of my upper GI tract and then (I don't know what it's called) looked at my throat with a tiny camera that he inserted through my nose and it just went down to my larynx I think. He found nothing and said it looked absolutely normal and healthy.
Since then, the feeling has gone further down my esophagus and I feel it every time I swallow.  It feels as if there is some sort of ball down there or someone is putting pressure on my esophagus.  Food goes down, my breathing is fine, I feel no pain, but there is this constant pressure every single time I swallow and even after.  Sometimes it's better, sometimes I hardly feel it, but it's always there to some extent.
I spoke to my doctor and he put me on Prilosec, which I have been taking for two days now.  It should be known that I have struggled with acid indigestion/sour stomach/bloating/etc. and occasional reflux for years.  I am 25.  The Prilosec hasn't done anything yet, and this is becoming more and more disruptive.
Like I said I am not in pain; however, I would like to know what this might be.
Thanks!

I have had the exact same sensation in my throat for a month and the doctor looked down there and saw nothing.  I too went to the ER as I felt and was afraid that my throat would close up completely. My throat doctor recommended that I go on Nexium and see a psychiatrist to help alleviate my anxiety. I am never in pain but the globus is very annoying and scary.  The feeling of a lump in my throat comes and goes in intensity. I was also told by my doctor that this is very common...not very reassuring.  Just wanted you to know how similiar our symptoms are. eve
