Ovulation and eggs

by foxy511, Jan 26, 2008 12:38PM
Hi,

I am on clomid for the first month now.  I have also use the ovulation test kit so I could know exactly when I hade my ovulation.  After having a Positive result we hade Sex 12 hours after and 30 hours after and then 48 hours after.  I am just curious to know if an ovulation mean that I did infact have eggs or does it happen to get an ovulation with out eggs?  I have never hade a positive result on ovulation kit before getting on Clomid so my hopes are up a bit.

Dear foxy511 - urine ovulation prediction testing is very accurate, when it shows positive. In approx 5%-10% of women who are truly ovulating, the test fails to turn positive. On the other hand, when it turns positive, you can be pretty confident that you will ovulate. The urine OPK tests pick up a hormone in your urine called LH, which stands for luteinizing hormone. This is a hormone that comes from the pituitary gland in the base of the skull, and surges to very high levels starting 36h before ovulation. This hormone triggers final egg maturation and ovulation. When it turns positive, for sure you want to have intercourse the day it first turns positive and the day after. Sorry for the delayed response - how did things work out?

hi,
i was on clomid two times, both ending in pregnancies.  my nurse told me that when on fertility drugs, ovulation tests aren't acurate, sorry.  you need to have a blood test to really see if you've ovulated.  when you ovulate there is an egg released.  keep trying!

I was on Clomid for 4 months and every month I got a positive answer on the ovulation tests and all 4 months I never started on my own. I had to take Provera to make me have my cycle. So as a women with fertility issues also I would say those tests might say they are positive but I am prime example that it is not true. I am actually taken Femara now.
