pudendal nerve

by sam502, Jan 26, 2008 02:31PM
can someone give me advise please. 2 years ago after a laparoscopy i started to get an overactive bladder with nerve symptoms before and after voiding. I`ve been to see a gynourologist and i`m on oxybutynine and 25mg of amptriptyline which has helped some what, but the tingling seems to be getting worse they want me to try50mg of amptriptyline for a month but i think its aggravating my ocd.I dont know whether to see a urologist or a nerve specialist, every time i mention it to my doctor they say there is no scan or tests that can prove its the pudendal nerve but when i look up the symptoms on the net it relates to my problems that i`ve got but not any information on how i get the ball rolling eg. who to see, what tests to get done and treatments. The tablets for the bladder seem
to be working so i`m scared to have tests done on my bladder incase it creates another problem or makes it worse,so i`d like to see someone about the nerves first but who? please help i`m at my wits end.                  Thank you

Hi,
I think you should be consulting a neurologist and make him examine thoroughly all reflexes in your body.
He is the best person to assess the neuropathy.
You can ask for nerve conduction velocity test to assess the motor function of the nerve.
You can also ask for MRI study to see for soft tissue pathology.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
