Should I remove my kidney?

by clayboy, Jan 27, 2008 06:18PM
I am a 34 year old male and have produced more than 300 cystine kidney stones.  I was diagnosed as a cystinurac at the age of 13.  I have had over 20 procedures including percotaneous nephrostomies, cystoscopies and lithotrripsy on my left kidney.  95% of my stones seem to develop on my left side. My last procedure was a cystoscopy done two weeks ago Monday.  A stent was left in as they sometimes do.  However when they tried to remove the stent, it would not come out.  It appears to have stones already forming on it. I have a follow up my regular doctor (who was out of town for this fun) this week.  I would like to consider completely removing my left kidney  The scar tissue makes is nearly impossibly for incisions to be made any more.  It just seems to be a factory for stones.  At this point, it seems to be more trouble than I am getting benefit from it.  I know one can live fine on one kidney.  Will the other kidney begin to form stones.  I am literally at the end of my rope!!!!
