no heartbeat at 9 weeks

by nenetobe, Jan 28, 2008 08:19AM
My daughter went in for her first transvaginal ultrasound on friday. The doctor told us that he didnt see a heart beat & she should think about a d&c. She should be about 9wks & 4 days. The baby did measure 9wk&1day, so that was good. She did schedule the d&c for tomorrow, but after hours of research she decided to wait. I've seen several women who had the same thing happen to them, & turned out the dr was wrong.

Jeez doctors are so quick to suggest a d&c! That really upsets me!
There have been thousands of stories where women were told that...than they got another opinion, another doctor and everything was fine with the baby. So don't give up hope yet! Tell your daughter this stuff happens all the time and to keep the faith. Find another doctor and schedule an u/s in a week or so. Praying for you guys!

Wow, that is odd that the doctor would be so quick to suggest something like that especially when the baby's growth looks good.  I was supposed to have been 10 weeks, started bleeding and cramping went in and baby stopped growing at 6 weeks with no heartbeat and I was given a choice to pass naturally or not.  I would def. get a second opinon or have him recheck in a few weeks.  If she isn't bleeding or cramping yet that is a good sign, it should also be up to you if you want a d and c or not.  Also, what about getting her HCG levels drawn in the meantime to see if they are doubling or dropping?

you should be able to see a heart beat by 8 weeks but i think you should wait another week and get another US and if there is still no growth then it is up to you whetehr or not you get a d and c or have a natural MC.

I know how hard it can be since i MC back in Oct 07.  i was 11 weeks along and the baby stopped growing at 8 weeks.  I opted for the d and c since i had not nautally MC in more than 3 weeks.

Best of luck to you and your daughter.

I had the same experience last month and they are very quick to suggest a D&C.....which scares me...Anyway, she could have Hcg levels drawn (just ask her office) and if they go down, then that's not a good sign and she can go from there....That's what I did...Luckily I had a friend who suggested it, otherwise I probably would have just listened to the Dr.'s and gone ahead with it...I would have wondered every day for the rest of my life if I had done the right thing....Having the Hcg levels drawn (and seeing them drop) let me know that I was doing the right thing.  Good luck to you and your daughter.....Let us know what happens.
