Hi Stacey,
Ive thought I should get my hearing tested since my symptoms started 5mths ago. But just never got around to it and wasnt high on priority of things at the time. When I completely lost hearing for about 30secs in my left ear and now its like that ear has never been the same. The other day I had pulsing like a heart beat in my ear which was weird but no ringing in the ears ever. Ive had my ears checked for fluid and infections etc etc which of course were all clear. I have definately noticed a drop in my hearing abilities, so I should go get it checked. mmmmmmmmm this post has just reminded me I really should organise that hearing test LOL!!!!!
I bet you feel like going AH just another annoying symptom to add to the growing list hey!!
I also was suffering from ringing in my ears. Everything was echoing and amplified that I went to th ER. I had inflamation around my brain and they gave me steroids to fix it. I was better for 3 days and then I just got the ringing back. It was suttle, but annoying. It comes and goes.

Very funny, Wobbly!
Yes, I could never hear anyone without my glasses on before I got my hearing aids....
I believe my loss may be high frequency as well, although men's voice ranges are what I seem to have trouble with, my audiologist said....
Not sure, though. To me, anyone I'm trying to hear is difficult. I have very small canals, too, and wear pediatric sized aids. They have room for only one microphone, as opposed to some with three, so I hear background noises and the person I'm trying to listen to at almost the same intensity. But, I AM VERY happy with the aids! Better than without!

I ALSO HAVE SENSINEURAL HEARING LOSS.
MILD IN RIGHT EAR AND MODERATE IN LEFT.
SENSINEURAL HEARING LOSS CAN BE CAUSED BY A VARIETY OF THINGS,MEDS(CERTAIN ANTIBIOTICS) ASPRIN,QUININE OR QUININE CONTAINING MEDS,LOUD NOICES OR AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS.
I JUST HAD THIS DISCUSSION WITH MY NEUROSURGEON THIS MORNING,HE WAS YIPING CAUSE I HAVN'T MADE MY HEARING AIDE APPOINTMENT YET.
OKAY I HAVE PROCRASTINATED FOR A WHILE.I ENJOY TUNING OUT CHILDREN,EX-HUBBY'S OR PEOPLE ON THE PHONE.
I PLAN ON CALLING TOMORROW.
SENSINEURAL HEARING LOSS IS FRUSTRATING,BUT IT'S ONE SYMPTOM THAT WE CAN GET HELP WITH(HEARING AIDES---IF WE MAKE APPOINTMENTS)

Bumping this up for young at heart.
Hi Gals,
I also have sensorineural hearing loss - but mine is high frequency. Have had mild since I was a kid, but subjectively I think my hearing is much worse now. My previous neuro was passingly interested and then forgot about it.....
I will go get testing done one of these days soon to compare with past tests. Maybe time for hearing aids soon. But my vanity intervenes!.......
Yes, lip reading is great.
I often can't understand people if I can't see their faces. Some people speak clearly and there's no problem but others are nearly impossible. I think the most common thing I say these days is "Say that again, please". Ce la vie!
No, I do not know the cause. I do have difficulty still with speech discrimination, and my hearing aids don't help with that. My audiologist made the excellent suggestion that I don't lose the skill of lip-reading. I haven't.
I love having the hearing aids. They have made a wonderful difference in my life. I no longer need to use the closed captioning on the television, which my kids LOVE -- they hated that, but I really think it helped my youngest to read!
At work, I do a lot better on the phone. The awful thing is the stupid woman I work for (whom we used to be good friends with) got a kick out of calling me Helen Keller for a while when I was first getting used to them. She's horrid, and the state agency worker who helped me pay for the aids offered to "educate" her on the finer points of employing someone with a handicap. I opted not to have him speak to her. I knew it would make it worse....
Anyway, GOOD LUCK with your course of treatment. Things will get firgured out!
And use the loss to your advantage, girl! Husbands don't always NEED to be heard!

LOL-- Oh well---Now at least I have an excuse for not responding to my husband when he talks to me..I just assumed I was deep in thought or something.
So do you know the cause of your hearing loss? It is good to know that hearing aids DO help at least.
Stacey
I wear hearing aids due to sensorineural hearing loss, but I am still lounging around in Limboland. My neuro was interested, thought ot hear - no pun intended - about it.
T-Lynn (young at heart) has hearing loss, too, and does have MS.
Perhaps she'll post something....
Good luck. I mean, GOOD LUCK!
