A conclusive test is 3 months. Unprotected anal, vaginal sex, sharing IV needles and syringes.

I have spent day after day after day researching HIV online.  From what I gather, any test after a few weeks of possible HIV exposure is pretty accurate but the most accurate results come in at the 6 month mark.  I believe the six month mark is the time when HIV would most definetly show up on a test.  If you are under the six month mark and have tested negative, I would feel safe to say that you are fine.  To be sure, and to clear up any anxiety, maybe you want to test again at the six month mark.   I literaly just got my results back 30 minutes ago.  The anxiety I was suffering from isn't able to be described.  Thanks GOD my results returned negative.  I have learned a very good lesson in life that I will never repeat again.  I think if you tested at the 3 month mark and came back clean, you can relax a little.  Just go for a follow up test at the six month mark to be 100% sure.  And, please learn from this as I sure did.  If you don't put your self at risk to begin with, you'll never have to worry about this mind racking subject again.  Hang in there and good luck.

Again we find some people trying to stir up things by claiming to test positive even after a 3 months or 6 months negative - see cdciswrong " 12 months to test positive". From my user name, anybody would have guessed that I have high anxiety level. Most of us are. So, to cdciswrong, please, is this really true? Please do not ruin the lifes of others by doing what you did.
Experts, I just wanna ask, what is the longest ever recorded late seroconversion in medical literature? What made them so special and when did this happen?

by hopeless4now, Jan 29, 2008 09:40PM
3 months is conclusive for almost everyone. The 6 month window is for people on chemo, IV drug users and those taking anti-rejection meds for organ transplants.

HAVE YOU TESTED NEGATIVE AND IF SO, HOW MANY MONTHS AFTER POSSIBLE EXPOSURE?  FROM WHAT I GATHER, 3 MONTHS IS VERY ACCURATE AND 6 MONTHS IS PRETTY MUCH JUST UNDER 100% ACCURATE.

by Leedsio, Jan 30, 2008 03:19PM
Stop saying these thing you will worry people. I've talked to many medical experts at specialist clinics barring certain circumstances illustrated above i.e chemo 3 months (12 weeks) is conclusive.

U will be suprised at my testing regime!!!! 12 blood drawn elisa and 1 rapid from week 4 to week 41 with 6 different labs. All non- reactive or not detected. Is this enough????
BTW, any difference between non reactive and not detected????

If you read around you will find out that most people who will test positive will do so anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks after exposure. The three months window is to be on the safe side. If you are negative at 3 then you are negative. You can test at 3, 4, 5, ,6 months and on but you will always test negative unless you had another risky exposure.

Wow, you sure did get a lot of testing done.  NON-REACTIVE means that HIV antibodies were not detected. (I think that is the exact same thing as NOT-DETECTED.)  If you tested this many times and all tests showed that you had negative HIV results, I would say you can relax a little because the probablity of all of those tests being wrong is eeeeextremely small.  If these tests are 99% accurate as advertised and you took 12 tests, all with the same result, in order for these tests to be wrong all 12 times would be nearly impossible.  Just to put it into persepctive, it would be like if I told you to pick a number that I was thinking of between 1-100, you would have to guess the secret number TWELVE different times in a row.  Even the best pyschic couldn't do that!  I think your fine and if I may suggest maybe you want to speak to a physician who can help you with what seems to be a high anxiety level.  I know what your going through as I was worried sick the past few weeks.  I learned a very good lesson and will never repeat the mistake that put me in this position to begin with.  Remember, when your down and out and have no one to turn to, GOD is listening.  Prayer works.  Good luck and relax a little about this.  12/12 with 99% accuracy rates surely puts the odds on your side.  =)

Thank you for such kind words. I pray...A LOT!!! I just dont know how to let go...maybe the reason for all this is guilt and also the fact that my wife now is pregnant. I only touched her after my 6 months negative.
I know I am negative, but the 'what ifs' are haunting my mind all the time.
To all experts,

What is the longest medically recorded late seroconversion? When did this happened and what caused them to be 'late'??
I think I will stop after testing out to 12 months if its gonna make it 100% reliable

You think that kind of BS is funny and you've been posting on an HIV website of WW? It's not humorous at all. Only a sick deranged person would do what you did.

I know what your going through, but you have been tested multiple times all with the same result.  Look at it this way.  If you tested positive all 12 times, would you be doubting the test results or would you believe you were positive?  You'd surely believe you were postive if all 12 tests said you were, so you need to turn it around and look at it the other way.  All 12 tests say you are negaitve so you should believe that you are negative.  It may be hard, but let it go and fight off / IGNORE the thoughts that haunt you about it otherwise.  If your wife is expecting a baby, start directing the energy you are using in worrying and focus on making sure your wife delivers a healthy and happy baby.  You'll be fine and if need be, take one last test at the one year mark and lay this to rest. Hang in there and keep parying!  =)

Yeah, I am constantly monitoring my wife should she develop any symptoms at all, of course being pregnant, she's always tired and sleepy, nausea, and bloating all the time. No fever
