White balls on back of throat

Ever since I can remember, I have had these white "things" on the back of my throat.  They are a mushy off-white substance that forms a kind of ball.  I can feel them when I swallow and every so often, they come out.  I can sometimes scrape them off.  They have a very bad odor.  What is this?

Hey there, I know exactly what those are.  I had the very same thing except not all the time, mine would come out of my tonsils, I could even push on my enlarged tonsils and the white stuff would come out like a zit.  I went to my Dr. and he said that our tonsils are like sponges with holes and when we eat the food get's trapped in the holes and starts to decay.  Then I guess when it gets full they come out, they smell awful and my husband and I always joke around and try to make each other smell them. It's nasty though, I had my tonsils removed so I no longer get them, but my husband does and he can pull on his throat and a large one will come out.  Gross huh?  Sorry, but that's all I know, if there is white ones on your throat all the time, that could be from an infection, I know when we are starting to get sick or a cold, they show up on the back of our throats.  Hope this helps. MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I would consult an ENT doctor. This seems to be a somewhat common problem causing the patients much consternation from the odor that eminates from the area.

I also had them, if you look in the back of your mouth on the sides you will notice small openings. Thats where they form and sometimes fall out. I started to clean out those "pockets" with a qtip and some warm water with salt once a week and it solved my problem.

Those little white balls are food that get stuck in holes in the back of your mouth and acumilate. Its old food that's why it smells. Try a small sucktion device to remove the food particles.

I just cleaned out the nasty stuff from my throat I've been to the doctor about it and they gave me an antibiotic that didn't help. I get most of the crud out by using tweasers. Just pulled out 3 good size stinky chunks. I always know when I need to check my throat when it feels like a hair is on my tonsles.

My family moved to Germany. A few weeks after, my brother and I got this at the exact same time.  We thought it had something to do with being in Germany.  The timing of it all was quite strange.  This has been a pain in the throat for us for over 33 years now.  I can get them out by creating a suction on the back of my throat one side at a time. My brother has not been able to figure out how to do it. It's hard to explain it but I just start sucking one side and they all come out.  I quickly spit them down the drain so I don't have to smell them. Then I suck on the other side to clear out the rest.

One type of this is an infection and one is not. The white stinky stuff that comes out in chunks or balls and smells horrible is germs, rotten food, the white stuff that collects on the back of your tongue. Your tonsils are specially made to protect you from bacteria infecting you. That is where the infection settles. When you have white patches on your throat, with it being sore, that's an infection. But the stinky stuff is just garbage that collects in the sponge like holes in your tonsils. I noticed them years ago and now, every night, as a part of my face washing and teeth brushing, I squeeze them out. And, .... I do smell it.. I don't know why, but I do. I love when I get a whole lot!!  I go to my husband and show him like I just won a prize!  Lol. But yea, that what they are...

I used to get those all of the time and they kept my tonsils very infected. I had to clean them out every morning with a long q-tip and iodine, otherwise I couldn't talk or eat for the rest of the day. After a course of antibiotics and gargling every morning with salt water, my ENT just decided to take them out. No matter what I did, the infection in my tonsils never got any better. That was 16 years ago and I haven't had a problem since.

I have the same thing every now and again. They came out when I sneezed sometimes and didnt feel particularly good when they were in my mouth. Only just recently I've actually looked at the back of my throat and seen them. Disgusting really. But good to hear that others have the same thing and there is an explanation for it. Cheers.

I also have these little white things.  I am so sick of them.  I would love to know how to get rid of them or at least get them out regularly.  I am always brushing and gargling mouthwash because I feel so stinky back there.  Yuck!
