Mouth irritation

by GV, Jan 01, 2006 12:00AM
I went to my bi-annual cleaning 10 days ago.  I had noticed irritation in the bottom inside of my cheeks.  It looks like red, irritated skin with some skin sloughing in the morning.  Dentist said it was likely chronic use of Listerine that caused some ulcerations and it should clear up on its own.  After stopping Listerine, I noticed some improvement after a few days, no bleeding anymore, etc.  But getting it to go away seems slow going.  I started rinsing with Biotene (anti-bacterial, non-alcoholic rinse) I think it is helping?  Is it good to use that?

Lips are also a bit dry, my mouth feels dry, and sometimes it seems a little difficult swallowing, but I don't feel sick and my lymph nodes don't seem swollen.  I just had a sports physical a few weeks ago and had perfect blood work.  I am a 28 year old, non-smoking and non-chew tobacco male.  Currently not on any medications.

Do you think there is anything else going on here?  Any thoughts?

I don't know too much about Biotene so I could't comment on it. I think if you see results from not using the Listerene then that should be sufficient.I am not sure why you might have a diminished salivary flow which seems you are indicating. If in fact this is the case then I think that this should be investigated.
