question about treatment

by fromnowhere, Mar 14, 2007 12:00AM
Hello! I am going in Next Friday for 8 extractions. 2 are surgical(tooth is still there but cavities are so large they are scared they will break off) 1 normal extraction and 5 root extractions. They told me the root extractions will be no big deal butits seems to me they would be the hardest. I am terrified of the procedure. He is going  to do it at one time so i will only have 1 healing period which is fine by me. He is giving me 2 Ativan to take 1 1/2 beforehand and i am getting Nitrous. So hopefully i will be pretty much out of it. My question is will i be in horrendous pain afterwards? Also what is teh difference between normal and surgical extractions? Thanks in advance!

It is difficult to estimate how much discomfort you will have post surgery. You will certainly be uncomfortable.Surgical extractions require removing the tooth or teeth by sectioning them and removing each root individually--as you stated it is because the teeth are very decayed with the possibility of them fracturing using the forceps that is used with non carious or slightly carious teeth.
