Wisdom Tooth Extraction and Airplane Travel

by De-De, Jun 01, 2007 12:00AM
My 17 year old daughter is scheduled to have her 4 wisdom teeth extracted on June 11th due to pain.  She also has braces and may also need a frenula(sp) release.  We have a family reunion scheduled in another state on the 23rd which will require airplane travel.  Will these procedures affect her traveling on an airplane (pressure)?  Should I cancel our attendance?  I think I'm more nervous than she is about all of this.

If everything goes well I do not think there should be any problem with your traveling plans. But with any type of surgery there is always the possibility of a longer recovery. If I was a betting man I think your daughter will do fine.

there is almost a 2 week interval. she may still be sore, but if there are no complications with the surgery sheshould be ok to travel. I would discuss this with the oral surgeon who is familiar with her case.

Thanks for the responses.  Reassurance is all I need.  As I said I'm more nervous than she is.  My daughter is athletic and healthy so everything should be fine.

I had a wisdom tooth taken out on Tuesday 7th June

It didn't go easily and my dentist had to drill the bone to try get all the root out. In the end she gave up and has had to leave some in. Despite taking Ibuprofen I'm still getting pain on and off which surprisingly seems to be in my top row even though the tooth was taken from the bottom row.

I am flying next Tuesday 11th June. The fact that I am flying never occurred to me as a problem - could it be?

was the dentist an oral surgeon????  If not, I suggest you see one to evaluate the fragment that was left in.

No it wasn't an oral surgeon just a dentist. She said if I had a problem with the root that was left, she would have to refer me to someone else because of too much gum and bone in the way.
