root canal and gum pain

by caroleau, Jan 18, 2008 12:00AM
I had a root canal done three weeks ago. They gave me an antibiotic (amoxicillin 500 mg)and they subsequently put some medication in my tooth. Nonetheless, I kept having like a throbbing sensation, a pulsation, and also whenever I ate or I talked I still felt pain ( sometimes giving me slight headaches). I have been back to my dentist at least once or twice a week. Actually, I just saw him two days ago and whenever he touched a certain spot my gum felt very sensitive. Anyway, he filled it temporarily until next week and took an X-ray before sending me home. He told me "let's see how it goes". I asked why it was so sensitive since I already had the root canal, he told me it was because the tooth  was not healed yet. Meanwhile, if I talk or eat, if I gargle salted water, my tooth hurts ( or should I say my gum) and I'm starting to be desperate. What's going on and what should I do?

I would make sure that the tooth is out of occlusion which means you do not want to beable to bite on it when you put your teeth together normally.I also think that the sensitivity will dissipate in time . Be patient( sorry for the pun).
