Enlarged 3rd Ventricle in 33 week ultrasound

by Laura808, Jan 30, 2008 02:22AM
Hi, at my 22 week ultrasound my baby had corpus plexus cysts on its membrain.  My obstetrician suggested I have another ultrasound at 33 weeks to make sure they resolved themselves, which they did.  However, now they found that the 3rd Ventricle of my Babys Brain is enlarged.  The Lateral Ventricles are normal and everything is flowing as it should be.  I had another ultrasound at 35 weeks and the 3rd Ventricle is still enlarged but everything else is the same.  Can someone please tell me what this all means?  Will my baby be brain damaged?  The ultrasound specialist suggested that once they baby is born we scan the brain then.  Im scared that the 3rd Ventricle will get bigger in the meantime and could cause damage by the time my baby is born.

The specialist also said this case is very rare, but thats all I got from him.  What are the implications of my babys health? Would it be safer for my baby if I have a cesarian?

Am only 20 weeks and was told during my 20 week scan that my baby's ventricles are dilated.
Luke your's, this is a bad condition if it doesn't resolve on its own.
Also i think it would be better for you to give birth by cesarean so as not to cause further damage o the baby's head.

Am still hoping fr the best..

I was searching the web for information and came across your post.  I had an US done last friday and they told me that left side ventrical was enlarged and the right normal.  Perinatoligist could not adequately explain this to me.  I have a elevated risk of downs syndrome and the dr said this finding just took me from 1 and 71 chance of downs to 1 and 35.  Really confused as to what to do.  Did yours resolve itself, did you go on to deliver normal?
