NO HEARTBEAT AT 9 WEEKS ON U/S

by nenetobe, Jan 30, 2008 12:10PM
MY DAUGHTER HAD AN ULTRASOUND LAST WEEK. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND 9 WEEKS + A FEW DAYS. THE SCAN SHOWED THE BABY BEING 9W/1D. WITH NO HEARTBEAT. I'VE READ ALOT OF CASES LIKE THIS WHERE THE HEARTBEAT SHOWED UP A FEW WEEKS LATER. ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS?

Hello,

If the pregnancy is 9 wks along by reliable measurements and there is no fetal heart then she has a failed pregnancy.  She can wait for it to pass on it's own, take medication to help it pass or have a dilation and curettage to remove the pregnancy tissue.  Discuss the mgmt with her ob/gyn.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Hi there. just wanted to know how she is doing? Is she going for another scan? What about HCG levels being tested?

Hi
What this sounds like is a missed miscarraige but i urge your daughter to get further opinions and i say this because i has a missed miscarraige where i had scan at 12 weeks but baby stopped growing at 8wks, they said they couldnt see no heartbeat and i just took their word for it, didnt get no further opinions and i'm sorry i didnt because since i have heard of so many mistakes being made or pregnancies not going to plan but then turning out ok.
best of luck. :-)

I would wait a few weeks and have another scan then see how the baby looks and go from there.
