Back feels like it has blown out!

by JMar63, Jan 30, 2008 03:15PM
After two months of hurting, I finally went to my doctor. By the time I saw him, I was looking feeling in my legs to the point that I would have to find something to hold me up until I could use my legs again. They felt like jelly. I also have pain shooting down both of my legs. I recently had an MRI. The MRI showed arthritis (which I had already been diagnosed with), a bulging disk and some spinal stenosis. The more I read about the spinal stenosis, the more I wonder how long I have had it.
I had the epidural injection on Friday morning and afterwards was in the worst pain that I have EVER been in, until this morning (Monday)  I have had natural child birth!
When I ride in a car, even with frequent breaks, I am in pain for several days afterward. The longer I am in the car the more it hurts and the longer it takes me to get over it.
This is the same with walking.  As much as I don't like to, my mom has me use a wheelchair due to the fact that I can't stand on my feet/walk for very long without having tremendous back pain.
I was born with mild scoliosis in my lower back. I have sprained my back several times. I have always had problems. The biggest problem that I had until recently was the my doctor for all these years only gave me pain medicine and muscle relaxants. They never investigated the pain.
Now with my new doctor of about a year and a half, I have found out I have 2nd level Osteoporosis, arthritis and spinal stenosis and a bulging disk.
What I want is to know how to get my doctor to get me the help I need. Which type of specialist is best? Everything I have read about spinal stenosis goes right along with what is happening to me.
I haven't been real active in years and there are many things over the past 20 years that I have learned that I CANNOT do. It seems to be going down hill rapidly in the past couple of years. My husband evens sees it. He is afraid that within 5 years that I will be using a wheel chair. I am now scheduled to have a Myelogram this Friday. This terrifies me!
With all these things going on in my back, what is my prognosis for my future???
