Hernia Repair Complications

by MNbeekeeper, Feb 01, 2008 03:26AM
For almost 7 years now since my left lingual hernia repair I have not been able to exercise abdominal muscles or return to jogging because of nerve damage.  If I exercise I get severe aching in the testicles (predominately the left) and there is a large pocket of something (dried blood I suspect - treated once with ultrasonics but of little benefit). I will also get very sharp episodic "stab like pain".   I quit everything except walking and it has eliminated the accute incidences and the aching pain in the testicles is gone but occasionaly I will get a tollerable pain once in a while after long walks.  The pain is mostly acute right on top of the pelvic bone below the incision area nearest the scrotum.  When I exercised regularly the pain was chronic, constant, and caused many disruptions to sleep.  My surgeon was useless and only told me about some other poor sap who had to quit his job.  He said the repair required 2 mesh whatevers.  He gave me a bottle of 24 percaset(?) with a refil.  I took only 3(not all at once) right after the surgery and that was all.   Another doc I went to said I would just have to "live with it".  I don't take any meds and don't like to unless bad then ibuprofen works fine.  Maybe I take 8-10 pills a month 2 at a time.
I would like to return to more vigirous exercise like I used to do (am now 55) (maybe not marathons but 10K's and weights would be wonderful.  I have done bikes but I find the "aching" returns quickly).
I am in a job that requires me to travel extensively and I have been living outside the country for 3 years now so I haven't pursued anything lately but now I need to change my habits as my mainly sedentary lifestile has used up the benefits of a healthy habits prior to the surgery.
Anything I can do or additional surgery that might help here?
