have I torn my ACL graft?

by bec513, Feb 01, 2008 06:36AM
Hi, I am three months post ACL reconstruction and I had a minor fall where I twisted my bad knee outwards while my foot bent towards my other knee. There was no pop sound but it felt slightly stiff afterwards and it is now slightly swollen between my knee cap and my shin. I probably stretched it a bit further during the fall then I had been bending it previously. I can still walk fine although there is some swelling and it still feels a bit more sore than it had before. Should I be worried? Is there a test I can give myself to find out if I tore the graft? I can't go to a physio for another month because I am in Sri Lanka at the moment....

Hi,
How are you feeling?
I think your injury is indeed worrisome.
Your symptoms of sudden twisting of your knee and now presenting with swelling suggest that you have either a meniscus or ligament injury.
Your symptom of not hearing any pop during injury suggests that you had probably meniscus injury.
At present I think you should be getting an imaging study done in Srilanka which should be MRI as early as possible. This report of scan you can fax back to doctor you had initially operated upon you.
I think we can take a call once you are done with your imaging.
Analgesics and general strengthening exercise will help.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
