Throat scar tissue after back surgery?

by Sooviver, Feb 02, 2008 11:05AM
I had back surgery in August 2007 for removal of bone spurs on L5 and L6. The spurs were pushing on nerves that were affecting my left leg and I had a lot fo pain. After surgery the right leg began hurting.

But the major question I have is has any one else gotten scar tissue in their throat after
the anthesia tube was used in surgery? This has caused wheezing that I have never had before.
My Dr wants me to go to an ENT to see what he/she can do. Curious about this whole situation.
Thanks for any info.

My mother had/has scar tissue in her throat.  After two years of suffering and wheezing every time she moved she went to a gastrointerologist who did an endoscopy.  He discovered that her trachea was the size of a drinking straw when it should be the size of a quarter.  He referred her to a pulmonologist.  The pulmonologist did an angioplasty on her throat and opened it up.  He told her that it could last a day, a week, a month, a year or for the rest of her life but that if her throat closed down again they could do the angioplasty as often as she wanted to.  They do not know why it happened to her.  She has not been intubated for long periods of time (which they told us was the leading cause of this happening).  She went to two ENT's who did nothing for her.  I would suggest that you find a pulmonologist and have them do a CAT scan and see if the scar tissue has caused your throat to close down causing your wheezing and see if they will do an angioplasty on your throat to open it up.  Good Luck!
