bleeding and hormone imbalance after pregnancy?

by kan211, Feb 02, 2008 12:43PM
I gave birth to my 3rd child via c- section in july 07. I am currently still breastfeeding. I started getting my period again in nov 07. Periods have been regular except for the consistency of the blood. The first 2 days a tampon has to be changed every 30 minutes. I dont think im bleeding more than normal its just that the blood is totally liquid and bright red like a fresh cut. Its not the usual darker clumpy bleeding ive always experienced before this last child. Could this be normal? Or do i have some hormone imbalance that is preventing the shedding of the lining of my uterus and im just bleeding? Also i have been shedding hair like crazy for 4 months now when will this stop? And one last symptom I constantly have is lower back pain. My lower back is always stiff.

Hello,

I suspect there is nothing abnormal about your bleeding.  I don't know about your hair or back pain.  You may want to see your PCP regarding those concerns.

I had my 3rd child on new year's day '08 via c-section plus a tubal ligation.  1 1/2 months later I started getting my period every two weeks.  Each period is very heavy (soaking a pad in one hour) and I feel very weak for 7 or 8 days.  My obgyn told me that my thyriod leves were way off and told me to see my pcp.  Now my pcp is trying to determine is medication is right for me or if I should wait and see if the hormones go back to normal on their own.  Any suggestions?
