dandruff causing hair loss??

Is there a connection btwn having dandruff and hair loss?  I am a 33 y/o female.  For the past several months I have been battling with dandruff.  It's all over the scalp and there is intense itching.  Nothing I do helps. I've also noticed that my hair is falling out in clumps when I wash it and/or comb it out.  I am not pregnant, my period is regular and I have a pretty healthy diet.  I even went to my Dr at which point blood was drawn for testing but everything came back negative. I have used every shampoo out there to treat dandruff but nothing has been effective. I have also taken Biotin 2500 (as per my Dr) daily for 3 months to stop the hair loss.  No luck in treating either issue.  Do I have to work on getting rid of the dandruff first in order to stop the hair loss??  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't have any advice, but I did want to you  let you know you're not alone.  I have been battling the same thing for months now.  I have tried every dandruff shampoo out there, & I am now using a clarifying shampoo to no avail. I also have stopped using conditioner to try to see if that is a root of the problem.  I'm going to the doctor in the next couple of weeks to get his opinion.

The only thing I can suggest to you right now is to see if your doctor tested your thyroid levels when he did the blood test.  I know I have hastimoto's & hypothyroidism ((underactive thyroid)) & it does characteristically cause dry skin & hair loss.  Unfortunately, I know that is not the cause of my issues because I have all of that under control. Thank you for your response.  My dermatologist tested my thyroid levels which were normal.  I'm still puzzled.   Good luck!!

jbug74, I highly recommend you use Banfi hair lotion. It will stop the dandruffs and the hair loss and make your scalp feel really relaxed.

Hi i am new to this site. where do you buy Banfi lotion and what is in it.
I have tried every thing and nothing works. My doctor says i have dandruff.
There arnt white flakes lots of dead skin and it itches. He said im shedding skin faster than normal. My hair is not oily. Any info on this would be great.
My regular Doctor is running blood work on me.
This is driving me crazy when i am in the sun you can see all the dead skin flying off my scalp. Also my hair is getting thinner.

I went to school to be a cosmetoligist and I have had the same prob. If u r over drying ur scalp this can make it produce extra sebum (big word 4 oil) which auses dandruff ur scalp needs 2 be balanced 2 the right ph level Try using Nizoral its in a little blue bottle its a litle pricey butit worked 4 me anddont not condition ur hair that helps to balance it but do it every other wash u also shouldnt wash ur hair everyday at first if may be a little more oily but its just getting use to it eventuallly it wont do that but it kind of depends on where u live and the humitity if this is possible in my personal opinion oh and what kind of hair u have factors into it also
