Dying for Fresh Air

I've tried explaining this to the doctor before and he basically gave me a strange look and didn't know what it was nor did he care to try and figure it out.
I will sometimes get this smell and taste in my mouth that I can't seem to get away from. It just happens out of the blue and doesn't seem to be connected with anything I'm doing or eating (that I have noticed). The best way I can describe it is that I feel I'm in this cloud of fumes that smells like a mix of gasoline and exhaust with a little sweetness to it (I guess). Nothing I do will stop it, not even going outside and taking in deep breaths of fresh air. It will go away on it's own. Sometimes it will gets so strong that I feel like I'm going to pass out because I'm not getting any fresh air. Almost like my body is intoxicating itself. I'm really hoping that someone can possibly give me some insight so I can get answers. I have read that diabetes will cause a smell like that but I was just tested and it came back negative. Any suggestions?? Thanks
