Type of HIV test Electrochemiluminescence

by Claudiu_Thomas, Feb 03, 2008 05:48AM
Hello everybody, I have been away for some thime, trying to forget about the HIV fear.
But no I went to have my 3 months test (the result will come next week). The test that was performed on my this time was called "Anti HIV 1 & 2 Electrochemiluminescence". Do any of you know anything about this type of test. I did not manage to find out much about it (regarding HIV test to be specific).
Is this Electrochemiluminescence less accurate that an ELISA HIV test?
Thanks in advance,
Claudiu

That article is 12 years old and outdated. What test did you take? Who was the manufacture?

No not at all. There is a company that has an FDA approval for Microparticle Chemiluminometric Immunoassay for HIV1/O/HIV2. It was approved in May of 2006.

I do not know the manufacturer. The test was taken at a private clinic in my home town (Torino). This private clinic is one of the biggest in my country but this test, i have never heard of it until it was performed on me there. All I know is what i have told you. Do you think i should retest using with an ELISA test?

No, that test is just as good as an ELISA test.

I've done this test as well. It was done in the biggest hospital in my city before surgery. Even HBsAg test was done using  Electrochemiluminescence. Its as good as ELISA as far as my doctor says. Otherwise the hospital wont take a chance and operate me for cosmetic surgery  to infect all their surgical equipment.

Chemiluminescent Immunoassay  is a donor screening test. Microparticle Chemiluminometric Immunoassay is Diagnostic for qualitative determination of antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus type 1, including Group O, and/or type 2 in serum or plasma which neither would give you a early diagnoses of HIV infection.
