need rehabilitation help please

by lucydiamond, Feb 03, 2008 08:12PM
Hi - My Grandma had a stroke on 12-27-07.  She was in the hospial for a week and a half.  She started acute rehab on 1-8-08.  She has completed 4 weeks.  When she went in she was totally dependent which they call max dependent.  She is on a feeding tube and cannot talk.  For the first 2 weeks there, she had some problems with getting the amount of water the doctor perscribed through her feeding tube.  The last 2 weeks she has finally started making progress.  She still cannot eat or talk.. But she has speech therapy and is really close.

Now her insurance is saying they have to move her to an assisted therapy program because she is not making "fast" enough progress.  When she got to the hospital they said she had to complete 3 hrs of rehab everyday in order to stay, which she does.  She has worked so hard and now they want to move her.  And the hospital agrees.

MY QUESTION IS:  Has anyone out there had this problem.  We really want my grandma to stay whre she is because we feel it is the only way she will make a signifigant recovery.  Does anyone have any information that can help me out here???  Thanks so much and God Bless!

These "rehab programs" have gates, which are difficult to open up. As for the insurance companies, a plague on their houses. If there is any degradation in the quality of care protest the degradation in writing, registered mail, return receipt requested.  I don't have any easy answer, but be persistant, make requests for care in writing to a specific individual by name, and try not to take "no" for an answer.
