i dont understand

by Jade84, Feb 03, 2008 09:29PM
i recently had an ultra sound to find out why i have such bad period pain, which i have always had but seems to be getting worse, this is what my scan said, my left ovary is 5mls and has 18 follicles and my right ovary is 10mls and has at least 15 follicles. it also said i had a small amount of fluid in the pouch of Douglas. the appearances may indicate developing polycystic ovarian disease.
when i went back to my doctor he told me thats what i had and i switched off after he said possible infertility (i was devastated) could someone please explain to me what my report means and should i stick with my doctor or go and see a gynecologist??

You should definately go see gynecologist and maybe even a fertility specialist if you want to conceive and have a baby.
I am your age and I also have PCOS and irregular periods all my life and my ovaries each have at least 30 follicles....it is horrible and it would be hard to conceive a baby but I m on the drugs to have O and then try to get pregnant...

The chances are not as high as with no problems but there are chances....
PCOS if you are not overweight and don't have diabities is not as bad....but you have to watch your diet...

Hi Jade,

I agree with Anya.  Definitely see a fertility specialist.  I am 32 yo and have had really bad menstrual pain to the point of vomiting and blacking out.  Like Anya, I am on Diabex which is Metformin to trying and get Ovulation happening as I have been trying to fall pregnant for over 1.5 years.  I have been told that Metformin works in about 50% of cases.  This is my first month on the drug so don't know the results.  Will have to take a blood test next week to see if it worked.  If this doesn't work, my doctor says he can do some other procedure where a whole bunch of eggs are released but this may result in multiple births.  Don't know much about this procedure.  After this its IVF.

I'm afraid the pain hasn't become easier with age, if anything, worse but I have learnt how to deal with it.  I am not overweight but was told to have a low GI diet, regular exercise and have sexual intercourse every second day.
