Strange Female Budgie

by nouwwa, Feb 07, 2008 05:46AM
I have 2 budgies in 1 cage (male&female) for the past 6 months. Please note that the male is older than the female. All was fine till winter came. The female has gone crazy. Flying around in circles and whenever I put clean new food she attacks the food dish and empties it by kicking out all the food. The male isn’t getting to eat and I think is just copying her flying movement but not even that much. Please advise!

Could you separate them for a few weeks, see if that helps? Most often when I see bizarre behavior like this, it's usually related to nesting. Does she have a spot in the cage to nest if she chooses? That might make her feel better, more calm. That might be why she's emptying the food dish too. Just a guess.
