Cavernous Angioma

by harcourt05, Feb 07, 2008 07:51AM
I have a 3.7cm (golfball) in my brain stem.  My new neruologist took me off of all restrictions that I had like, a 20lb wieght limit and any restriction that woulld possibly strain the brain.  My last doctor seemed to be worried about me all time until we got the seizures a bit more under control.  My new doctor says its just a cavernous angioma.  Nothing is going to happen to that thing.  I dont know if I was seening an over protective dotor before or if my new neurologist just doesnt seem to care.  I dont know what to do?  Please help

Hi There,

My partner suffered with a bleed at top of brain stem which has caused him numerous symptoms. A cavernous angioma was one of the possibilities he was diagnosed with having caused it. The latest possible diagnosis is a vertebral artey dissection hence the question i had posted.

When he was told about the cavernous angioma he was given no restictions, not told to give up smoking nor to avoid stress etc.

I did alot of research into the condition and it does say its unlikely to burst though it can. I suggest to you that you do a bit of research and hopefully that will help ease your mind a bit and ensure you have an MRI every 6 months to a year.

Your first neurologist sounded a bit paranoid on your behalf but at least he would ensure you were monitored properly. If you feel like you do about your new neurologist then get yourself a different one as worrying bout him not caring wont help you.

My partner sees a different doctor every time he goes to hospital but the best one he has seen is the neurosurgeon we recently seen. He has learned to listen to his symptoms and act accordingly.

Hope this helps even just a little.  Take care of yourself and dont worry too much (know thats easy to say but being with someone in the same boat as yourself you begin to think you have the same condition!!!)
