"Thick" Mucus

by hiroller44, Feb 07, 2008 01:08PM
My ENT has told me that as one "ages" (age 66), sometimes the mucus from ones sinuses thickens up and you feel a constant draiage down the throat. An examination revealed no sinus problem that required surgery. How do I "thin" the mucus. I already irrigate my sinuses twice a day with a saline solution. I cannot take Claritin due to problems with insomnia.

Two medicines that can help thin mucus are guaifenesin and SSKI.  These are minimally effective for most people but work well for others and are worth a try.  Ask the ENT about these.
