shoulder block complications

by clbrown, Feb 07, 2008 10:48PM
Last year I has surgery twice on my right shoulder, first to reattach the retracted tendon the second to repair a tear caused by a fall a few weeks after the surgery that caused the repair to tear. I was offer a shoulder block both times which I declined. A few months later I had the same surgery to reattach the retracted tendon in my left shoulder, In recovery I requested the shoulder block as they could not control the pain. Now I have swelling 24 hours a day at the top of my shoulder and going up toward my neck. The more active I am the more the swelling and the more pain. It has been five months, could this be a complication from the shoulder block?

Hi,
How are you feeling?
Pain, tingling and numbness are signs of neuropathy. This neuropathy could be due to nerve block.
I would like to know what kind of block was given and which nerve they had given the block?
I think you should be re-evaluated with help of imaging study.
You can consult your surgeon back and decide regarding further management.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.

Hi, I had an "attempted shoulder surgery" last Wednesday and had a shoulder block done. The first one did not take, so they did another one, same dosage, and about 45 min later my heart rate dropped to the 20's and I of course passed out. Is this typical? I am rescheduled for Monday to redo this surgery. Thanks, Steve
