Can anything else mimic inferior infarct

by MamaL56, Feb 08, 2008 01:11PM
I just had an ECG for preop for cholecystectomy. It showed possible inferior infarct. Can anything else meds, diseases mimic this? I have had no symptoms other than rt sided pain and right shoulder pain.

ECG is not a very good source to determine heart conditions other than arrhythmia. Artefacts can cause a false positive and that includes medication.  An infarct indicates heart muscle damage from a prior heart attack.  If the doctor is concerned, there would be further testing such as an echo.

Relax.  "False heart attacks" showing up on EKG are very common a Cardiologist told me.  Both my husband and I showed a "false heart attack" on our EKG.  Tests proved that we never had one.

What did the doctor say about your EKG?  Further tests?  Not to worry? Will they do the surgery anyway?
