NAAT and Rapid Test

by wonder_worrywart, Feb 11, 2008 06:46AM
Dear Drs.

I was told by an ex that he is HIV positive two and half months post-breakup.  The breakup was not a good one and I do not know if he is telling the truth.  As far as his status during the relationship, he was negative.

I went to the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center to get tested.  They are piloting the NAAT test.

I am suspecting that I tested at week 10 (to be prudent but it might be week 12) with both the Rapid Test (by finger stick) and NAAT.

Am I in the clear?

If you can help me with this question, I would really appreciate it.  State guidelines are saying 3 months and then 6 months to be perfectly conclusive.  I was told the NAAT would reveal different results by being more specific.  I am wondering if my "viral load" around week 10 was not high enough for NAAT detection as well.  The test is a qualitative test so I understand it is quite sensitive but there isn't much information on the NAAT.

Thank you!
