6 yr old sleeping and discipline problems

Can you help, my six year old has slept in my bed until his one year old sister was born, now he is in his own bed but has to have somebody beside him at nite time otherwise he will wake up crying.  How do i get him out of this habit?  Also, how do i discipline him during the day without feeling terrible?  I think thats why i stay beside him at night, is because i feel so bad about giving out to him all day.  I dont want to have to keep giving out to him but i need to let him know when he is doing wrong.  How can I do this without raising my voice.   HELP.

My daughter just turned six and has the same problem. We have got her to the point where she will start the night in her own bed, but she always wakes up and basically sneaks into our bed before morning. (We often don't wake up. If we do, we move her, but then she will sleep on the wood floor next to the bed.)
