Legal issues donating/selling supplies

I, too, have some pump supplies I'd rather see go to a needy, fellow diabetic rather than...where ever it is you're supposed to dump them (OR some "supplies flipper" trying to make a profit).

I'm concerned that since my insurance technically purchased them, are there negative legal implications for giving them away (or sold as some people I see here are doing)? Not to mention they're a prescibed item and legally require an Rx to obtain.

'Just curious.

For the record I, personally, would only ever expect shipping/handling charges as I feel selling for a profit on insurance payed supplies is unethical, most likely illegal, and scummy. Life if madness enough for diabetics. Let's help each other out, right?

If you are interested in donating supplies, I  suggest that you contact the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Online Diabetes Research Foundation (ODST) at www.jdrf.org -- click on the ODST link on the left side of the page and type in that you are interested in donating supplies, but are worried about insurance repercussions. A staff member who deals with financial issues of this sort will contact you.

I to believe it would be unethical to make a profit on insurance paid supplies, however that is not the case here. I have to pay out of pocket for every diabetic supply I need. You see I am one of those lucky diabetics with NO INSURANCE! So in the future, please get all the facts before you put other people down ie: "scummy" ? Give me a break. This world needs kindness, not meanness!

I felt the same way, so I dontated my old pump and all the supplies to a clinic in town that was just beginning the process of offering pump therapy (no one else offers this in our town).  They were very appreciative and I felt it was in my best interest as well, as they may become an asset to me in the future also.

Where did your attitude come from?

"Scummy" would be, say, a person who sold their insurance paid supplies for a profit. Or "scummy" would be someone claiming to be needy only to turn around and sell those same donated supplies for a profit. Ya see?

You're not scummy so don't worry. You just don't read posts that well before responding. This world needs people who can read.

I have similar supplies> From Lancets, To syringes, etc.. Only problem?
You  have to ck with your Local Police Dept.. and you have to be extra carefull if they are in your name... You don't want someone to end up dying using your stuff and their family comming back to "haunt" ( sue) you...and/or for violating some State or Federal law and there are so many, who knows! It's just not worth it.. Try asking your local Hospital and Your Dr.

I also found out it cost more to ship them than they're worth..Box of Syringes> are only $15, lancets and other stuff are worthless..
Now if oyu have Test Strips? That's another story..many sell them on Ebay..at 1/2 price.

OMG I am really shocked now that anybody has to sell diabetic supplies to other diabeticts because you have to pay for everything you need for your diabetes its about time your government removed this burden from you and supplied everything you need for your diabetes free it is bad enough you have to cope with your diabetes without having the added pressure of having to pay for you medical supplies as well

i too think its wrong to sell for profit, or sell at all, i would rather give to someone who needs but am a bit afraid of being taken for a ride, eg donating a pump to someone who then goes on to sell it. its not right.
