Karposi Sarcoma lesion found in GI

by jsw4u, Feb 13, 2008 08:27PM
I have a friend that has had HIV for 6 yrs now and has been under the supervision of an MD throughout.  However, his blood tests 3 wks ago were: CDT? 254, Viral load 14,500 and the Dr put on a triple med that contains Sustiva.
Further, during a colonoscopy, a Karposi Sarcoma lesion was found in his large intestine.  He is understandably upset and is concerned that he is about to come down with full blown AIDS. His MD took more blood tests and told him to come back in 1 month.  The MD told him not to get too worried that he felt that we needed to give the meds a chance to work, since hes only been on them for 3 or 4 weeks.  Also, that the med will probably get the KS under control, that it was not like other cancers  and responded to HIV meds.
How worried should my friend be? Can the med possible get this under control, or is he looking to developing the KS lesions like one would see back in the early 90's?  I know you have limited information here, but please do you best to educate me a bit.  Thank-you, JSW
